Instant reaction-recap from UCLA’s 75-71 thrilling victory over Arizona in the 2014 Pac-12 tournament.
And after all that UCLA still owns Arizona. Bruins just won the Pac-12 tournament in Las Vegas in front of 10,000+ screaming Wildcat fans by beating the Wildcats in a thriller. The final score was 75-71. Here is the box score.
The game was a back and forth nail-biter in the second half. It wasJordan Adams, who was once again the Wildcat killer as he knocked down a clutch 3 point shot with the score tied at 68 and 43 seconds left in the game.
The game wasn't close early on. Bruins started the game hot as they went on an early 12-0 run to go up 14-3 thanks to drives from Norman Powell and Kyle Anderson. Powell was on fire early on as he helped the Bruins take control of the game. And that's when Steve Alford decide to take him and put in his son to take over the point. Arizona eventually caught up due to a stagnant offense and made the game nail biter in the second half.
The two teams kept exchanging leads. But the Bruins hung in there thanks to another brilliant day from Anderson who led the team with 21 points, 15 rebounds (!) and 5 assists. The Wear Twins combined for 11 points and 6 rebounds but you have to give them credit for the way they hustled and were diving all over the floor in the closing mins.
As for Arizona - this means once again Sean Miller cost the team with bone-head coaching decisions in a key game. One has to wonder why he has the reputation of being such a "good coach" despite underachieving with all that talent.
It will be interesting where the Bruins end up. This weekend showed that we have had the talent to do great things all season long. We underachieved during the regular season by blowing multiple games we should have won easily.
It's not the first time Alford has won a conference tournament. We will see if he can be unselfish enough (not force mins for his son) to lead this team to at least an Elite Eight.
